Biographical Comments
Thomas Robert Christie joined the Vancouver Fire Department June 22, 1959 and retired July 1, 1988 as a Captain, after serving 29 years. He enjoyed not only the work, but the camaraderie on the job and maintained many dear friendships through the years. After retiring, he committed some of his endless energy to the Vancouver Retired Firefighters Association, in which he eventually served as President for 10 years. In November of 2007, he was diagnosed with leukemia, and passed away February 29, 2008 at age 74.
It is ironic that this non smoking, non drinking athletic person would pass away in what his family and friends would consider young. He had boundless energy and they could only conclude that the many years on the job, in those smoky environments, cut his life all too short.
(Submitted by the Christie Family for the 2009 Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial)
