Biographical Comments
Ole was born in Turner Valley and raised on a farm near Black Diamond. After a brief stint working for Macleods Ltd. and as a mailman, he found his calling as a firefighter for the Calgary Fire Dept. He retired a Captain after 30 years of distinguished service. Olaf cherished his family and was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved country music and played fiddle in a band as a young man. He also played the guitar and sang with his sisters, kids, and other fellow musicians. He was naturally mechanically inclined and repaired vehicles for years. His interest in radios was extensive. He built his first crystal set as a young boy. He was a member of the Canadian Sidebanders Club as Big O and then the Foothills Amateur Radio Society with the call sign VE6 OLE. He and Gwen loved to travel and toured extensively through Canada and the U.S. They are members of the Stampede City SAMS RV Club spending lots of good times in Yuma, Arizona with their fellow snowbirds. Olaf had an amazing sense of humour and was still teasing and cracking jokes on his deathbed.
(Submitted by the Wilson Family for the 2008 Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial)
