Biographical Comments
Captain Jim Barabash started his Fire Career in Kitimat B.C. in 1968 later to move to Vancouver B.C. and joined the West Vancouver Fire Department in 1970. He became a first class Fire Fighter in 1975, promoted to Lieutenant in 1981 and appointed to Captain in 1987. He was known for his athletic prowess. A fierce competitor in many sports, he mostly enjoyed hockey, football and baseball. Those who knew Jim well would agree he would do anything for you. They also knew he would challenge you at times with a rough exterior, but still a heart of gold. Jim was an only child but found many "brothers" within the department especially a man named Clare Dickson.
(Submitted by the BArabash Family for the 2009 Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial)
