Rik began his career with the Calgary Fire Department on October 12, 1972. He became Captain in 1991. Rik was very proud to be a fire fighter and shared his knowledge of firefighting with the volunteer fire department in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He went out on a training drill with the Cabo fire fighters to pass on his knowledge of extrication. At that time the Cabo Department did not even own “jaws of life.” Rik’s love of NASCAR was only exceeded by the love of his family, in particular his grandchildren. “Papa Ik” loved to build things with the grandkids and watching Monster Jam was a favorite thing to do with them. Rik’s love of travel took him to many exciting places and he never forgot the friends he made along the way. Rik would be truly humbled at being a part of this Memorial.
(Submitted by the Taylor Family for the 2013 Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial)
