Marvin became a fire fighter in the City of Prince George in 1975 where he remained for the next 25 years.

He enjoyed his involvement in the Prince George community as a volunteer with the Big Brothers Association and Auxiliary RCMP. He was involved with various committees, worked security and drove bus for high schools and sporting events around Prince George for several years.
