Monday, October 27, 2003 It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we have to report to you the line-of-duty death of Platoon Captain David A. Richard of IAFF Local 2494 – Ft. McMurray, Alberta. Brother Richard died on Thursday, October 23, 2003 of a heart attack. The viewing for Brother Richard will be held today, Monday, October 27, 2003 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. by Robert Anderson Funeral Services at St. Johns Roman Catholic Church, 3 Hospital Street, Ft. McMurray, Alberta T9H 1P2, (780) 743-3980. The funeral service for Brother Richard will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. also at St. Johns Roman Catholic Church.

Biographical Comments
Dave became a full time Firefighter with the Fort McMurray, Alberta Fire Department in January 1977. He joined the Executive Boards of IAFF Local 2494 and the Alberta Firefighters Association. He was promoted to Lieutenant March 1986, to Captain in May 2001, and to Platoon Captain October 2003. Dave started the Seniors Lifeline Program in Fort McMurray in 1986 and organized fund-raising functions until his passing. He was awarded the "Fire Services Exemplary Medal" from the Canadian Federal Government October 2000 and the Alberta " Emergency Service Medal" in October 2002.
