It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we have to report to you the line-of-duty death of Fire Fighter Bruce Charles Robert MacFarlane of IAFF Local 905 – Nanaimo, British Columbia. Brother MacFarlane died on Sunday, August 18, 2002 of a heart attack. The viewing was held for Brother MacFarlane on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. at Parksville Funeral Chapel (250) 248-4644 or (250) 753-4215. The funeral was held on Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Serauxman Stadium located at 750 3rd Street – Nanaimo, British Columbia V9R 1W8 – (250) 248-4644.
Biographical Comments
Bruce was a devoted family man, a successful baseball coach and a proud professional fire fighter. Bruce joined the Nanaimo Fire Department and IAFF Local 905 in 1981. He was a passionate about baseball and in 2001, coached baseball at the World Series; in 2002, he coached the Gold Medal winning team at the British Columbia Summer Games.
