Biographical Comments
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Battalion Chief (retired) Robert McKay. Shortly after his retirement in January 2022, Battalion Chief McKay was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on July 2nd.

Robert McKay was from a family of Chicago firefighters. He moved to Texas and was hired by the Baytown Fire Department in 1982. Rising through the ranks, he served most of his career at Station 4 in southeast Baytown. In 2008, he promoted to Battalion Chief and became a shift commander, a role in which he served until his retirement. He was also one of the first paramedics employed by the City of Baytown and was one of the original members of the Baytown EMS service in the 1980s. Chief McKay also spent more than 20 years of his career on the Hazmat team. Chief McKay devoted 40 years of commitment and sacrifice to the Baytown community, and we are honored to have had the privilege of serving with him.
