steve loved to travel and has walked the great wall of china, 'snuba' dove in the philippines, swam with the turtles in hawaii, and survived a near-miss crash landing in shanghai. but his favorite place on earth was tulameen, bc. his parents have owned a cabin there since 1976 and steve loved the little town so much that he built his own beautiful log cabin there. countless days were enjoyed entertaining guests and riding dirt bikes on the back trails with dawn and many friends.

steve has been described as brave, smart, wise, funny, kind, loyal, respectful, sensitive, intuitive, patient, witty, and most of all, inspirational. steve was famous for captivating audiences with his unbelievably detailed storytelling. anyone who had the fortune of meeting steve undoubtedly heard some of his stories and there is no one that would not love to hear just one more. to say that there is an eternal hole in our hearts would be putting it mildly. but we are forever grateful for the six decades that captain steve letourneau graced our worlds.

due to these unfortunate and extraordinary times, a formal firefighter funeral has been postponed. in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the bc professional fire fighters burn fund and the langley animal protection society (laps). condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com" target="_blank">captain stephen michael letourneau, 59 of langley, b.c. passed away after a courageous and lengthy battle with work-related cancer.

steve was born on august 10, 1960 at st. mary's hospital in new westminster, b.c and was predeceased by his younger brother, robert, who died at the age of 18 in 1980. steve is survived by his parents david and elizabeth letourneau, sister cindie barlow (wayne), brother john letourneau (liz), and sister tammy iversen (john).

steve is also survived by the love of his life, dawn, who he married in maui on april 25, 2009, and her two sons steve (steph) and daniel (anne) hilbich. steve often credited his registered nurse wife as being responsible for his longevity, having saved his life on several occasions. this gratefulness towards dawn over these difficult years extends throughout his entire home and work families.

over steve's 35 years working with the vancouver fire department, he served in all 20 vancouver fire halls and was a highly respected captain. his natural ability to guide his fellow firefighters, coupled with fast thinking, wit, and compassion were loved and appreciated by all. he always referred to his fellow firefighters as his "work family", and they felt it.
