It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Fire Chief Philip P. Christensen, IAFF 14th District Local 33, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Brother Christensen, 54, passed away on February 11, 2023 after succumbing to an occupational cancer.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Evangel Temple Assembly of God, 1110 S 12th St., Fort Smith, AR; phone: 479-782-9121

Biographical Comments
Chief Christensen valiantly battled cancer for the last 9 months. His is a line of duty death as his cancer was certainly from an exposure during his time as firefighter. Chief Christensen joined the FSFD in May 1992, he was named Fire Chief in July 2016. He was a lifelong member of the IAFF, and Local 33 President from January 2008 thru January 2014. He was a good man, loving husband, and father. He was an excellent Fire Chief, an asset to and supporter of the City of Fort Smith. He will be greatly missed.
