It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Deputy Chief Peter Bendinelli, IAFF 8th District Local 621 – Calumet City, Illinois. Brother Bendinelli, 48, passed away on March 31, 2025 after succumbing to occupational cancer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Faith Church, 100 W. 81st Ave., Dyer, Indiana. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April, 5, at 10 a.m. at the same location.

Biographical Comments
Deputy Chief Pete Bendinelli of the Calumet City Illinois Fire Department honorably served the citizens of the city of Calumet City and its residents from the 16th of October 1998 until the 31st of March 2025. Deputy Chief Bendinelli unfortunately lost a courageous 8 month battle with occupational cancer. Pete leaves behind him a forever lasting legacy of leadership, firemanship, and friendship. Throughout his career with the department he rose from Firefighter to Deputy Chief while also attaining his Masters Degree and Executive Fire Officer designation from the National Fire Academy. He served several years on the Executive Board of Calumet City Professional Firefighters Association Local 621.
