It is with deepest regret and sorrow to report the line-of-duty death of Firefighter/Paramedic Anthony Palato, IAFF 9th District Local 2086, South Metro, Colorado. Brother Palato, 55, passed away on September 15, 2021 from Colon Cancer.

A South Metro firefighter paramedic has died after a battle with occupational cancer. The department says Anthony Palato passed away peacefully Wednesday morning.
Tony, as friends and family called him, served Colorado as a firefighter paramedic for 21 years. His fire service career began with the City of Sheridan then with Cunningham Fire before the department unified with South Metro Fire Rescue. In 2017, Tony was diagnosed with job-related cancer. A few years later, he was in remission, but the cancer tragically returned. He passed away Sept. 15 at the age of 55, leaving behind his wife and two daughters.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (KRDO) -- South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) announced Firefighter Paramedic Anthony Palato has passed away after battling with an occupational cancerous tumor.
According to 9News, Palato passed away peacefully early Wednesday, said South Metro Fire Rescue. His family and co-workers knew Palato as Tony.
A few years ago, Palato went into remission, however, cancer returned. Palato was diagnosed with an occupational cancerous tumor in 2017.
Palato began his career with the City of Sheridan Fire Department. In 2000, he continued his career with Cunningham Fire Protection District. Cunningham consolidated with City of Sheridan Fire Department in 2018. Palato worked for City of Sheridan Fire Department until he medically retired on March 1, 2021.
"As a paramedic for 21 years, there is no doubt that Tony touched many lives and will be remembered as a kind, caring and compassionate person with a true servant’s heart, he will be greatly missed," said a statement from SMFR.
