It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Captain Ronald Hegedus, IAFF 6th District Local 18 – Vancouver, British Columbia. Brother Hegedus, 59, passed away on Aug. 16, 2024 after succumbing to occupational cancer.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church, 1022 Nelson St, Vancouver, BC V6E 4S7; phone: (604) 683-4574.

Biographical Comments
It is with profound sadness that we report the news of the Line of Duty Death of Captain Ron Hegedus, age 59 of Vancouver, British Columbia. Brother Hegedus worked for the Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services for 24 years as a career firefighter. Brother Hegedus passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024.

Ron bravely battled occupational cancer, a disease he contracted in the line of duty, and his loss is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks we face in our service.

Ron was more than just a colleague—he was a friend, mentor, and leader to us all. His warm presence, both in the halls and beyond, will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
