Monday, June 17, 2002 It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we have to report to you the line-of-duty death of Fire Fighter Gary W. Giffin of IAFF Local 2782 – Fort Nelson, British Columbia. Brother Giffin died Tuesday, June 11, 2002 of head trauma. The viewing for Brother Giffin will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by Hamre's Funeral Home at the Lamplighter Hall, 5430 50th Avenue North, Fort Nelson, British Columbia, (250) 785-6273. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Nelson Recreation Center, 5500 50th Avenue North, Fort Nelson, British Columbia, (250) 774-2088. Procession will begin at 1:00 p.m. in full dress uniform.
Biographical Comments
Gary was a kind, loving and giving person and made everyone feel special. He touched many people's lives in the 31 years spent on this earth. He was always full of joy and laughter and loved to tell stories to anyone that would listen. He was deeply loved and will be truly missed. Gary attended St. Francis Xavier University and Shelburne Community College, Nova Scotia. He had a small part in the movie The Scarlett Letter. Gary servied as paid on-call with the Fort Nelson Fire Department, becoming a full-time Fire Fighter in 2001. Gary was very proud to have been a Fire Fighter.
