It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Captain Timothy Rodriguez, IAFF 10th District Local 2881, Cal Fire-Sacramento, California. Brother Rodriguez, 44, was killed in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2023 while fighting a wildfire. Also killed in the crash were Cal Fire Assistant Chief Joshua Bischof and contract pilot Tony Sousa.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Mon., Aug. 21, 2023 at the Ontario Convention Center, 2000 E Convention Center Way, Ontario, CA 91764

Biographical Comments
Early Life: Fire Captain Tim Rodriguez was born on January 3, 1979, at San Gorgonio Hospital in Banning, California. He was raised in Hemet, California where he graduated from West Valley High School in 1997. As a young man, Tim was known for his love of his family, the outdoors, and was often described as an outstanding friend.
Education:
After graduating high school, Tim attended Mt. San Jacinto College where he pursued an education in Fire Technology.
Career:
Upon completing the fire technology program, Tim began a prosperous career in the Fire Service as a Firefighter I serving at Fire Station 41 in Mecca, Fire Station 28 in Sage, and at Hemet Ryan Air Attack Base for CAL FIRE. In 2007, he promoted to a Firefighter II at Fire Station 79 in Coachella, then to a Fire Apparatus Engineer in 2014, working at various locations including Fire Station 37 in Desert Hot Springs, Fire Station 26 in Little Lake, Hemet-Ryan Air Attack Base and ultimately Fire Station 12 in Temecula. In 2019, Tim was promoted to Fire Captain, first serving at Fire Station 14 in Corona, and then returned to his passion at Hemet Ryan Air Attack Base in 2022 as a Helitack Fire Captain. Throughout his career in the fire service, Captain Rodriguez was always the consummate professional, exercising incredible character, leadership, and humility.
Legacy:
Captain Rodriguez was beloved, highly skilled, and well-respected among his peers.
Personal Life:
Tim met his beautiful wife Dorothy in 2001. They were married for 19 years. Together they share three children, Josh, Haley, and Alexis. Captain Rodriguez had immense love and pride for his family, and they often enjoyed their time hiking, camping, snowboarding, kayaking and mountain biking.
