It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Captain Christopher Jones, IAFF 4th District Local 539 - Portsmouth, Virginia. Brother Jones, 47, passed away on Jan. 8, 2025 after succumbing to occupational cancer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, 2025 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sturtevant Funeral Home, 5201 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23701. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Alive Church, 1935 Jolliff Rd., Chesapeake, VA 23321.

Biographical Comments
It is with deepest sympathy and regret that we announce the death of retired Captain Chris Jones from occupational cancer.
Captain Chris Jones passed this morning surrounded by his Family and closest friends at the age of 47.
Captain Jones, a Portsmouth Firefighter for 20 years, was stationed at various stations and held numerous specialty certifications including Hazmat, Tech Rescue, and the Fire Marshals Office. Chris will be remembered for his passion and love for his family and crew, coupled with his unwavering commitment to service excellence on emergency scenes.
Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends and coworkers.
Funeral arrangements will be announced as they become available.
