It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Engineer James Barnes, IAFF 10th District Local 1775 – Marin, California. Brother Byrnes, 51, passed away on June 27, 2024 after succumbing to occupational cancer.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, 114 King Street, Larkspur, CA 94939.; phone: (415) 924-0600. A reception will be held immediately following the memorial at the American Legion Hall, 500 Magnolia Ave, Larkspur, CA 94939.

Biographical Comments
Brother James 'Jamie' Brian Byrnes passed away after a thirteen (13) year courageous battle with occupational brain cancer. He was first diagnosed at 38 years of age and passed away at age 51.

Brother Byrnes was a longtime labor leader and incredibly integral part of the Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775 having served in the following roles: Bargaining Unit Organizer, Contract Negotiator, Shop Steward, Executive Board Member, Committee Chairman, Sergeant-at-Arms, Union Treasurer, Union Vice President and as a Delegate to the International Association of Fire Fighters. Jamie spent his professional career working at the County of Marin Fire Department, retiring due to his diagnosis at the rank of Fire Engineer. He had previously served in the ranks of Firefighter and Seasonal Firefighter. He is survived by his son Ryan, who is 14 years old.

Memorial Services for Brother Jamie Byrnes will be held Wednesday, September 11th, 2024.

There will be a memorial mass held at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church located at 114 King Street, Larkspur, CA 94939 beginning at 1000 hrs.

There will be a reception held at the American Legion Hall at 500 Magnolia Ave, Larkspur, CA 94939 immediately following the memorial.

Apparatus that will be participating in the procession are asked to stage at Central Marin Fire Authority, Station 16 (Bon Air), at 15 Barry Way, Greenbrae, CA no later than 0830 hrs.
