George Walter Taylor, 46 of Leonardtown, MD passed away peacefully on May 25, 2020 at the Hospice House of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD with his family at his side.

Walter was born on July 12, 1973 in Washington D.C. to Nancy Kathryn Street of Kilmarnock, VA and the late George William Taylor of Hollywood, MD.

He is a graduate of Leonardtown High School and completed numerous fire and rescue courses through the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute. On August 11, 2000 he married his wife, Christine Marie Taylor in Prince Frederick, MD. Together they celebrated over 19 years of marriage.

Walter joined the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department in May 1988, at the age of 15 and held many officer’s positions over the years. He obtained his Life Membership in 2017 and was currently serving as the Safety Officer at the time of his passing. Walter was also made honorary Fire Chief in May of 2020. On August 14, 2000 he was hired by the Naval District of Washington Fire Department at Naval Air Station Patuxent River as a Firefighter and was later promoted to the rank of Fire Inspector in 2014 at the Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C.. In 2015, Walter returned to Naval Air Station Patuxent River as a Fire Inspector and held that position until the time of his passing. Walter joined the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department in 2004 and in 2016 he received a Silver Medal of Valor for assisting a downed firefighter out of a house fire. He held numerous officer positions over the years and was still an active member at the time of his passing. Walter was also a past member of Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he served for numerous years. He was a member of the Maryland Fire Chief’s Association and a Charter Member of the Maryland Red Knights, Chapter 4.

Walter enjoyed camping in Spotsylvania, VA at the Wilderness Presidential Camp Resort. He was a volunteer coach for St. Mary’s Youth Soccer, and enjoyed coaching his son’s teams. He was a member of the Tri-County Sports Officials Association (TSOA) and umpired slow pitch softball in St. Mary’s County and on Patuxent Naval Air Station for seven years. He was inducted into the St. Mary’s Softball Hall of Fame for Young Men’s Slow Pitch in October 2018. Over the year’s, Walter also enjoyed working as a doorman at the Dew Drop Inn and Hill’s Country Store.

He was an avid Washington Redskins fan, as well as, the Baltimore Orioles. He also enjoyed watching women’s college softball. He was a previous fan of the Baltimore Colts. He found joy in charter boat fishing with family and friends. He took great pride in his Harley Davidson Motorcycles, especially his 2002 Classic Fire Fighter’s Edition motorcycle.

In addition to his wife, Christine, Walter is also survived by his children: Miranda Noelle Taylor (Nick) of North Beach, MD, Kayla Michele Taylor (Teddie) of Solomons, MD, Justin Street Taylor of Leonardtown, MD, and Mackenzie Teresa Grace Taylor of Leonardtown, MD; his brother, James Patrick Taylor (Carla) of Milton, DE; his granddaughters, Avery Shadrick and Riley Brennan; his nephews: Nathan Taylor (Shelby) and Josh Taylor of Lusby, MD; his great nephew, Jax Taylor; his aunt, Martha Fox; his cousins: Helen Hayden, Pat Edwards, Mike Hayden, Frankie Hayden, Gaylynn and Derrick Dye; his father-in-law, Robert Lee Trossbach (Mary Della) of Leonardtown, MD; mother-in-law: Ruth Culver (Bruce) of Charlotte Hall, MD; brother-in-law, John Trossbach (Kelly) of Leonardtown, MD; and many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, George William Taylor.
