It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Captain Adam Kuspa, IAFF 8th District Local 338 - Elkhart, Indiana. Brother Kuspa, 41, passed away on Jan.6, 2025, after suffering a medical emergency.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, from 2-7 p.m. at the gymnasium of Holy Family Catholic School, 56405 Mayflower Rd, South Bend, Indiana. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025 at the church.

Biographical Comments
Adam Kuspa passed away at home on January 6, 2025, due to a pulmonary embolism caused by a surgery to repair an injury suffered in the line of duty. Adam was often thought of as THE firefighter. He inspired everyone around him with his hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment. Beyond his career, Adam’s laughter could fill a room, lifting spirits and reassuring everyone that things would be okay. He was a true friend to all, always ready with a helping hand, a joke, or simply the comfort of his presence or his big teddy bear hugs.

Captain Adam Kuspa began his service with the Elkhart City Fire Department May 23, 2006. His firefighting career started with being an explorer for Portage Township Fire Department at age 15. Adam worked and volunteered for several departments before he came to the Elkhart Fire Department. Adam lived and breathed the fire service. He was instrumental in establishing and leading our Technical Rescue Team (TRT). He was a chief training instructor, our department historian, and a vital resource for engine company operations.
