It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Lieutenant, James O'Toole
IAFF 15th District Local 1075 St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Brother O'Toole, 46, passed away on April 25, 2026 after succumbing to occupational cancer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Thursday, April 30, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Barretts Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., St. John's, NL A1E 1J9. A funeral service will take place on Friday, May 1 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary the Virgin Church, 80 Craigmillar Avenue, St. John's, NL A1E 1Z8.

Biographical Comments
Brother O’Toole, age 46, passed away on April 25, 2026, due to complications related to stage 4 melanoma. This diagnosis is recognized as a presumptive occupational cancer in Newfoundland and Labrador.
He was hired on June 22, 2001, and served as a dedicated member of our department and union.
