It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Firefighter/EMT Stephen D. Whitson, IAFF 4th District Local 1568, Henrico County, Virginia. Brother Whitson, 57, passed away on Apr. 6, 2023, after suffering a medical emergency.

Funeral services are pending and will be posted on the IAFF website when they become available.

Biographical Comments
Today our Division of Fire Family is mourning the loss of one of our own. It is with a heavy heart that we report the unexpected news of Firefighter Steve Whitson's passing. Steve served as a career firefighter for 17 years and was an integral member of the Division of Fire's Dive Team, with assignments to Stations 2 and 17 throughout his career. Prior to joining the Division of Fire, Steve worked in the Henrico County Sheriff's Department. He has over three decades of combined public safety service to the Henrico County Community at-large.
