George Baird, 52, permanent staff member of the Medicine Hat Fire Department since 1925, died suddenly while working on one of the fire cars in the garage shortly after 9:30am. Mr. Baird was engaged in routine duties of checking the truck and equipment when he suddenly collapsed. The Chief's car was immediately dispatched for help, but when the doctor arrived the man was already dead. Dr. J.R. Patterson, who attended, stated the death was due to heart failure.
