It is with deepest regret and sorrow that we report the line-of-duty death of Fire Fighter Christopher Brainard, IAFF 3rd District Local 825 –New Haven, Connecticut. Brother Brainard, 36, passed away on Dec. 3, 2025 after succumbing to occupational cancer.
A funeral service was held earlier this month.

Biographical Comments
christopher d. brainard, age 36, of shelton, entered into rest on wednesday, december 3, 2025, at st. vincent medical center in bridgeport. he is the beloved husband of 13 years of samantha (harrison) brainard. chris was born in derby on october 27, 1989, cherished son of howard l. brainard and the late diane (mando) brainard, and was a lifelong shelton resident.
he graduated from western ct state university and in 2010 he followed his dreams of becoming a firefighter with the echo hose hook and ladder company no. 1 in shelton. he then joined the new haven fire department, where he served for 10 years driving engine 11 truck 2 hill station.
chris loved to go fast… on the trails, on the water, and on the snow. he loved riding dirt bikes and was a born racer.
he is the devoted father of two cherished children, colten and avery brainard. chris also leaves his brother, brian brainard and his wife mary, his niece bailey brainard, and his mother-in-law gail harrison.
friends may greet the family at the riverview funeral home, 390 river road, shelton, on sunday from 1 to 4 pm. on monday his funeral service will begin in the parlor at 11 am. burial will follow at riverside cemetery.
at the request of the family, memorial contributions are encouraged to the colten and avery brainard education fund.
