Biographical Comments
Career Paramedic/Firefighter Robert A. "Bobby" Jones passed away on January 20, 2022 in the Line-of-Duty as an employee of the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company and member of the Carroll County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 5184. With this, he also served within the newly formed Carroll County, Maryland Department of Fire & EMS. His death is the first in the line of duty for the Carroll County Department of Fire & EMS, Reese VFC, and the Carroll County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics.

Bobby had most recently served as a career engineer (fire apparatus driver-operator) for Carroll County Company 9 (Reese VFC). With the surge of COVID-19 underway, Reese experienced staffing difficulties due to illness and operational challenges just as many others. Bobby, also a paramedic, stepped forward to cover open paramedic shifts on the ambulance to ensure services. It was through this that he was exposed to and contracted COVID-19 in December 2021 while treating and comforting affected patients and their families, serving the citizens of Carroll County, Maryland. After a hard fought battle with the virus, PM/FF Jones passed away on January 20, 2022.

Bobby Jones' dedication to the fire service began when he joined the Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Company on September 19, 1978, where he was a life-member until his death. Bobby became a career firefighter with the Baltimore County Fire Department, entering the academy as a recruit on February 28, 1982. His career would see his certification as a paramedic and eventual promotion to Fire Lieutenant, serving at Station 4 (Catonsville) before his retirement on April 4, 2012.

Jones began working part-time with the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company in the late 1980's as a paramedic. After retiring from the Baltimore County Fire Department, Bobby began his second career, working full-time for Reese VFC as a paramedic, firefighter, engineer, and shift supervisor. Bobby was a ingrained part of the Reese VFC family and a mainstay of the fire house. The members and his shift were truly members of his family.

Beginning with his career in the BCoFD in 1982, then Firefighter Jones became a member of the Baltimore County Professional Fire Fighters, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1311. His career long membership of the IAFF continued in his second career with the Carroll County Professional Fire Fighters & Paramedics, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 5184. The local IAFF family, Locals 1311 & 5184 and beyond, reeled with sorrow at the loss of Brother Jones. He was truly one of the best and widely beloved. We will forever miss his constant, unshakable of calm, amazing sense humor, and world class smile.
