Firefighter Harlan S. Simpson was struck by a vehicle at the scene of a structure fire located at 697 N. Main St. This incident occurred in the evening of January 9th, 1939. Firefighter Simpson was transported to Marion City Hospital by ambulance but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries the following day at 07:30. Harlan was hired by the Marion City Fire Department in 1917, at the time of his death he was survived by his wife Minnie and three children. Firefighter Simpson is buried at the Marion Cemetery in Area51.
